Career Goals

Ever since I was in high school, I was more interested in business studies especially the part where people were involved. Over the high school years I learnt about different type of businesses and different departments in business. Now that I am in college, I chose Human Resource as my major program because it’s all about how to use people to benefit a company or a business in order to maximize profit. Since I really enjoy working with people a bank or any other institution as such would be a great place for me.
To accomplish these goals I have been working hard in college so that I can get my advance diploma in Human Resource. Once I finish my college I plan to go to university. Hopefully once I finish university with a degree I will get a job at a bank as I planned. In order to achieve these goals I will do co-op and other part time jobs so that I can get more experience.

When I become a Human Resource professional I will join HRPA and work towards my CHRP designation.

My Employment History

Tim Hortons: (Storefront) 2005-2006

Fortinos: (Cashier) 2006-2008

Costco: (Demonstrator) 2008-2009

Beddington’s Bed & Bath: (Sales Associate) 2010-Present

My Personal Goals

Firstly, I have set a goal to involve myself in charities to help people in need. The American Cancer Society and SOS Children’s Village are some NPOs I would like to donate to. I would also like to be able to join their team and help with the donations and awareness of the cause.

Secondly, I want to save up money to go to Hong Kong. This is important to me because I lived there for 7 years and have not yet gone back to visit. Going back would be an amazing experience for me and almost like going back home.

Lastly, I want to discipline myself to stop procrastinating. This has been a problem for me for a long time, although in high school it didn’t bother me much because I always got through at the end but now that I am in college and take my studies more seriously I want to be able to do all projects and assignments to my full potential but procrastinating often gets in the way of that so I have decided to deal with this problem and get rid of it completely.

Business Leaders I Admire

Warren Buffett is an American investor, businessman, and philanthropist. He is one of the most successful investors in history, the primary shareholder and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, and in 2008 was ranked by Forbes as the richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of approximately US$62 billion. In 2009, after donating billions of dollars to charity, Buffett was ranked as the second richest man in the United States with a net worth of US$37 billion. The reason I admire him so much is that even with all his wealth, Buffet did not forget about the people who are in need and remembers to use his wealth to help these people. He believes in living a simple life even though he could lead an extravagant and most prestigious lifestyle. On top of all that, he is a very successful and intelligent business man, he has managed his money very well over the years, he had his ups and downs but he kept going and that is why he is so successful, there is much to learn from this man.

My Favourite Sustainable and Disruptive Technologies

A Disruptive technology that I use on a daily basis would be my IPod touch. This is an example of a disruptive technology because when it was first introduced it offered the ability to store and play music through digital devices which caused it to replace Cds and tapes, it also lets you play games on it while you listen to your music as well as browsing the web, It changed the whole experience and process of an audio player.

A sustainable technology I use is the computer at my house. This is a sustaining technology because when computers first came around they were big, bulky and had lots of wires but the computers now are more compact and user friendly. Although there has been new models since the first computer came out it didn’t change the initial plan which was to make work easy for the user.

My Business Process

I was recently in a business process when I purchased a shirt from Forever 21 and I played the role of a customer. In order for Forever 21 to meet my demand they had to manage their business process by having a data base which keeps track of what the customers have purchased and what the business needs to purchase to refill their stock, then the supplier receives the purchase order and supplies Forever 21 with their required items. In Forever 21’s case the payment activity of selling resources would transform quantity received and shipping invoice information into a Supplier payment. Forever 21’s goods being received from the truck would be considered resource along with any other items of value. Facilities would Forever 21’s inventory, database and file cabinets.
